Lloyd Lee Inducted into Alberta's Agricultural Hall of Fame |
|
The Alberta Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development(AAFRD), Ed Stelmach inducted three agricultural leaders into the AAFRDs hall of fame on October 15th, 1998. "Leonard Friesen of Airdrie, Jack Gorr of Three Hills and Lloyd Lee of Barrhead are true agriculture pioneers," said the Minister. "Our industry has changed dramatically over the years, but these men have not changed in their dedication to advancing the role of agriculture in our province." We are proud of our association with Mr. Lee and are working on many of his plants such as Robert Chokecherry, Lee Red Chokecherry, Lee Pin #4 and Lee Pin #2, Pink Mayday "Ethel" and his saskatoons such as Lee #8, Lee #3, Lee #2 and a delightful apple which is highly rated now only known as Lee #17. We offer some of his material for sale and are working on some in the lab. Just an update - Mr. Lee is 85 now, with another birthday coming soon! His mind is still sharp and he is forever interested in the advance of horticulture. He still lives and tends his orchard on the farm. He marched proudly behind the pipers and joined in the gala awards ceremony held at the Edmonton Inn, October 15th,1998. I missed his 85 birthday party, but his son Bill says, no problem, catch him at his 90th! |
